What to Expect During your Bowen Session

Please wear or bring loose thin clothing. You can change before the session if that is convenient.

Please print, fill out, and bring the following forms with you to your first session:

At the beginning of the session the therapist will evaluate your posture, movements, and do any further assessments needed.

A Bowen session begins with the client taking their most comfortable position whether laying or seated. The practitioner then performs short series of gentle moves on specific areas of the body, followed by wait periods to allow the fascia and muscles to release, both of which are equally important to the effectiveness of the treatment.

After your first session, if you may feel tired or fatigued you should take it easy for the rest of the day.  Increase your water intake by 2 to 3 glasses a day and go for easy short walks every hour or so to help integrate the work into your body.

You may notice changes taking place throughout your body for the first 1 to 7 days after your session as your body rebalances after the releases. It is not uncommon for people to feel extremely fatigued the following day, although it generally happens with more chronic or severe conditions.

Everyone has a different time to their healing process; it must be listened to and respected. For this reason, there is usually at least 7 to 10 days between sessions.

Because of the time it takes for the integration of the treatments, you will be asked to avoid other modalities (massage, acupuncture, etc.) so nothing interferes as your body balances and adjusts, and also, so we can isolate the progress.

We suggest that you also book a follow up appointment for 7 to 10 days after your initial visit.
